Uxbridge, Ma. Bernat Mill 7/21/07 : On July 21, 2007 at approximately 4:00am the Uxbridge, Ma Fire Department responded to the Bernat Mill for a reported fire. Companies entered the building to find heavy black smoke, banking down very quickly, making it difficult to find their way to the seat of the fire. Companies were eventually pushed out of the building as conditions worsen. Uxbridge Firefighters and Mutual Aid Companies made several more attempts to enter the Mill at the beginning of the fire but were unable to make progress do to the worsening conditions. The fire had spread fast throughout this 1820s mill complex that held 65 businesses, leaving approximately 500 people out of work. Fire Departments from 60 communities responded to this 8-alarm blaze in addition to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, ATF, MEMA, DEP, EPA, DFS, DCR, Salvation Army, Providence Canteen Unit, Mass Haz-mat Teams and numerous private ambulance companies. Also on scene were Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, Rep. Jennifer Callahan, D-Sutton, Sen. Richard Moore, D-Uxbridge, and Kurt Schwartz, undersecretary for the Executive Office of Public Safety. This gallery has a lot of photos, I had taken close to 1000 photo’s at this fire over 3 days, I tried to post a little of everything that I photographed.
