Ice Skating Party - Upton, Ma. Firefighters 2-7-10 : Many years ago the Upton Fire Department held annual Ice Skating Parties on Pratt Pond. Over the years that tradition had almost all but faded away until this weekend when the Upton Firefighters cleared the ice of snow, leveled the ice with water from one of its tanker trucks and setup tables, chairs, a grill for cooking and a hockey net at the far end of the freshly groomed ice. Many people came by to enjoy some skating on this crisp, clear day, some who knew how to skate and some who where learning for the first time. Everyone enjoyed the free doughnuts, coffee, juice, chips, marshmallows for cooking over the small bonfire, the casual conversations and hot dogs cooked by Firefighter Philip McClure. This event went very well for the Upton Firefighters hopefully this tradition continues to grow each year to come.
